Founded in 1952 and located initially at 242 Front Street, Mary Hart opened a nursery school as she puts it, "to teach children their ABC's and the fine art of getting along with people." The Mary Hart Nursery School became a Berea tradition. Mary estimates that approximately 3,000 children have "graduated" from her preschool, many being children of former students. In the spring of 2003, the school was moved to a newly renovated and larger facility at 706 Prospect Street in Berea. The school has continued to grow, offering preschool classes and childcare on a full-time basis. In January 2007, the Mary Hart Nursery School was renamed Mary Hart Preschool & Child Care.
